Data Visualization Specialist

ClipperData is currently seeking a Data Visualization Specialist to join our team in Montreal. The candidate is expected to be able to design/develop/enhance/maintain dashboard visualizations in various tools (primarily Tableau), prioritize work effectively, address production issues in a timely manner, and write documentation when required. Proficiency in SQL is required. The successful candidate should have strong communication skills to be effective in both technical and business requirement discussions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Play a key role on a collaborative team, responsible for the design and production of interactive client-facing dashboards, initially focused on shipping container market analysis;
  • Work hand in hand with data scientists, engineers and other data professionals to show the impact of data products;
  • Create specifications for reports and analysis based on business needs;
  • Design, code, test, debug, maintain, and document dashboard visualizations;
  • Participate in peer code and design reviews;
  • Demonstrate dashboard capabilities to clients;

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven Tableau and SQL programming skills
  • Experience with Analytics dashboard and data visualization; UI design skills a plus
  • Experience with data mapping, ETL tools and design
  • Proven experience and qualities including sense of ownership, strong communication skills, creativity, initiative, and attention to detail
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Must be fluent English speaker

Senior Java Developer

ClipperData is currently seeking a Senior Java Developer to join our growing team in Raleigh. The candidate is expected to take a lead role within the team; design/develop/enhance/maintain code in various languages. Also, ensuring that programming best practices are being followed, prioritizing work effectively, addressing production issues in a timely manner, and writing system documentation when required. The successful candidate should have strong communication skills to be effective in both technical and business requirement discussions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Play a key role on a collaborative team, responsible for the design and production of enterprise-scale business systems;
  • Support critical business functions through the development, implementation, and maintenance of standalone Java applications and web application systems;
  • Translate requirements into system design specifications and the implementation of systems throughout the entire software development life cycle;
  • Leverage technical and interpersonal skills needed to lead, coach, and mentor development teams;
  • Design, code, test, debug, maintain, and document software applications;
  • Develop web API services (RESTful and SOAP);
  • Participate in peer code and design reviews; 
  • Review and analyze existing complex programming to troubleshoot and resolve issues 

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • 5-10 years’ experience with Java required 
  • Experience with Java, JPA, JDBC, JSF, EJB, JAVA EE and ORM(Hibernate, JPA) 
  • Experience with at least one Java Application container (e.g. wildfly, glassfish)
  • Experience with deploying applications within a Linux environment
  • Proven leadership experience and qualities including sense of ownership, strong communication skills, creativity, initiative, attention to detail, mentoring/coaching/leading other developers
  • Bachelor’s degree required

PostgreSQL DBA

ClipperData is currently seeking a PostgreSQL DBA to join our growing company Raleigh.

Responsibilities of the PostgreSQL DBA:
* Maintain and optimize performance of the PostgreSQL Database as well as scale performance
* Architect and design for capacity planning
* Design and reason implementing parallel algorithms to ensure that operations can run as parallel and concurrent for database table operations with transactional semantics
* Will be responsible for backup, recovery and upgrading all databases as well as monitoring to optimize
performance
* Position is primarily Mon-Fri 8am -5pm, but applicant will need to be available 24 x 7 for emergencies with an
occasional on-call rotation

Qualifications of the PostgreSQL DBA:
*       Over 5 years of PostgreSQL database administration experience
*       Experience in performance tuning and optimization
*       10+ years of overall technical experience
*       Strong experience managing enterprise production level systems and data
*       Systems level architecture and capacity planning experience
*       Bachelors Degree required
*       Postgres DBA certification a plus
